Toray Membrane Bio-Reactor
MBR (Membrane Bioreactor) process is a combination of biological wastewater treatment and filtration. Biodegradable pollutants are reduced using bacteria and microorganisms. Following biological treatment, activated sludge is separated from the treated water by Toray’s PVDF flatsheet membrane with a nominal pore size of 0.08 microns densely distributed along the membrane surface.
NHP(A) series improves membrane packing density against TMR140 series by Toray’s unique element fabrication technology, then that leads 50 percent increase in capacity at the same footprint and lower air scour requirement of rigid plate MBR models.
MBR Technology Explained
Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) process is a combination of biological wastewater treatment and membrane filtration. Biodegradable pollution such as BOD is reduced by activated sludge. Following biological treatment, treated water is separated from activated sludge by Toray’s microfiltration membrane.
Toray MBR are PVDF flat sheet membranes with a PET non-woven support layer. The nominal pore size is 0.08 microns with a narrow pore size distribution. Toray membrane elements with a 0.7m2 membrane area are joined to our membrane module. These modules are composed of 300 and 600 membrane elements.
NHP Modules
Toray MBR modules consist of a membrane element, a cassette , a stainless steel element frame, a permeated water manifold and an aeration block.
Feature of new NHP Modules
Toray MBR NHP-module has a 50 percent increase in capacity at the same footprint and lower total air scour requirement compared to rigid plate MBR. Cleaning efficiency is also better because of its flexibility.
Each element is connected with hose nozzle and permeate tube. Condition of permeate water can be checked through transparent tube.

Toray Ultra Filtration
Toray’s PVDF (Polyvinylidene fluoride) hollow fiber UF membrane module has one of the industry’s highest mechanical strength and chemical resistance (oxidation, pH), and effectively removes suspended solids and microorganisms such as pathogens for various water purification applications.
Toray’s innovative membrane module is a product of more than 30 years of polymer science and membrane fabrication technologies at Toray Industries, Inc.
Toray Pressurized UF Membrane Modules
The material of Toray’s Hollow Fiber (HF) Pressurized Ultrafiltration (UF) modules is PVDF (Polyvinylidene fluoride). This best grade HF membrane material provides high mechanical strength and chemical resistance (oxidation, pH).
The filtration mode is an Outside – in & Dead-End Filtration. This filtration method offers simple operating control and low energy consumption.
The possibility of the filtration of Ground Water, Surface Water, Sewage Secondary Effluent and Seawater allows a wide range of different applications:
- Drinking Water Production
- Tertiary Treatment of Sewage Water
- RO Pretreatment in Seawater Desalination
- Industrial Water Production
- Reuse of Industrial Waste Water
Why Pressurized UF Membrane ?
- Highest flux in industry due to strongest fiber amongst all our competitors including Dow, Asahi, Inge, GE etc. This reduces the number of modules required.
- PVDF – Out to in – dead end filtration (cross flow possible, if required).
- Backwash flux of 1.1 times filtration fux. This advantage is not offered by any manufacturer. Normally backwash flux is 1.5 – 2.0 times filtration flux, for all manufacturers.
- Extremely low chemical consumption. We require only FECl3 (coagulant, if required), NaOCl (cleaning), Citric acid (not very often).
- The results we are getting are unmatched in industry. At RIL Hazira TTP RO, we are getting SDI of 1 or thereabouts, for last 2 years.
- Almost nil fiber breakage, due to strength of fiber.
- Much lower downtime (for cleaning) as compared to our competition.
- Five years warranty (with first year cliff) as standard offering.
- MWCO of our UF is 150,000 Daltons .
- It can achieve six (6) log of bacteria removal (100 % time) .
- It can achieve one point Five (1.5) log removal of viruses (100 % time) .

CSM Nanofiltration
Some of the common uses of NF membranes are utilization on hard water treatment, drinking water disinification by removing color and organic substances, and treatment of brackish water. These membranes are also applied in several processes, for example, the food products processing, production of medicines, chemical industry, and others, providing high quality of filtration.
Looking at its structure of NF membranes they possess the ability to reject divalent and larger charged particles compared to smaller monovalent charges. This characteristic makes them suitable for use in situations where there is need to eliminate some forms of impurities apart from minerals, from the water. NF membranes, they found importance in removing pesticides, herbicides and most of the agricultural chemicals from water sources to yield safer water for consumptions.
In industries, NF membranes are applied for work of focusing valuable phases, water cleaning, and utilization of valuable side-products. The capability to work at such lower pressures is useful in lowering operational expenses as well as service durability of the filtration system.
In conclusion, NF membranes offer a flexible and effective means of separating water and solvent combined with high rejections of undesirable dissolved substances, as well as maintaining other important water qualities.
